The Coroner has a statutory duty under the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 to certify and register deaths for any cases referred. Post-mortem samples are mostly utilised however ante-mortem sampling is occasionally required. Samples taken are sent for Toxicological testing to ascertain the presence of the requested drugs or alcohol.
