CPV codes explained
What is a CPV code?
CPV stands for Common Procurement Vocabulary. It classifies the supplies, services and works described in public procurement notices, giving buyers and suppliers a shared way to identify a contract’s subject.
How are CPV codes structured?
The main code has eight digits, followed by a check digit after a hyphen. The first two digits identify a broad division; subsequent digits narrow it into groups, classes, categories and more specific subjects.
Which CPV code should I choose?
Look for the description that most closely fits the purchase. Start with a broad category and work towards a specific code. A contract can involve several subjects, so more than one code may be relevant.
Which version does this finder use?
This tool uses the English main vocabulary from CPV 2008. It does not include the separate supplementary vocabulary.
Can I search tenders using a CPV code?
Yes. CPV codes can be used as filters in tender searches. Check the notice description as well to decide whether an opportunity fits your business.
