Previous works to plug the eastern sluices are showing signs of degradation allowing leakage from the inner basin to the outer harbour. The eastern sluices are to be dammed, but not completely blocked. The solution envisaged is a plate or wall, with a weir or letterbox set at 3.6m chart datum.
