UoN requires an instrument that can measure the surface profile of objects up to 20 cm in lateral size, with a resolution able to detect features down to 10 nm, in a non-contact manner. The machine will be able to investigate a wide range of projects and technics related to surfaces, coatings and multilayers utilising technics ranging from PVD to liquid plasma spraying to chemically and mechanically modified structures.
